Spiritual counseling

Questions and concerns about what is most meaningful often come into the mind and heart as patients and their loved ones face a life-limiting illness. The hospice spiritual coordinator assists patients and families to explore these questions and concerns, in a manner that is respectful and honoring of each person's beliefs.

Sometimes patients and their caregivers turn to a specific faith or religious tradition and seek the rites and rituals of that tradition; the spiritual coordinator can assist in making these arrangements. At other times, the spiritual coordinator's role may be to provide a peaceful presence or to pray, to help patients and their loved ones find forgiveness or reconnection with others, to listen to patients and caregivers express their emotions, and to encourage patients to share their life story as they identify what has brought them pleasure and meaning.

Patients and families may choose to utilize these services at any time during their hospice service.
