Hospice volunteers generously give their time and talents to provide non-medical services to patients and their families.

The list of "what volunteers do" is as varied as our patients and families are. Volunteers often provide companionship for the patient or respite for family members. They might help with shopping or light household tasks, share an interest or special talent (such as reading, music, art, computer skills, needlework, gardening, sports), interact with children in the family, or help the patient accomplish something important to them. If the patient is in a skilled nursing facility, volunteers provide companionship and support to both patients and visiting family members. Volunteers offer a compassionate, caring presence and a listening heart.

Volunteers participate in an orientation program, monthly educational sessions and individual meetings with the hospice volunteer coordinator. As members of our hospice team, volunteers also communicate with other team members as needed.

For more information about hospice volunteers, call us at 978-459-9343 as ask for the volunteer coordinator.
